Lexical consistency in the poem "Nuniyyato Abu Turab”by the poet Ahmad al-Wa'ili

Abstract

This research examines lexical cohesion as one of the most prominent aspects of textual cohesion in the poem "To Abu Turab" by the poet Ahmed Al-Waeli. It stems from lexical cohesion's active role in achieving textual unity and semantic harmony through the lexical relationships that govern its vocabulary and contribute to constructing its overall meaning. This poem was chosen for its linguistic richness and semantic density, as well as its ability to showcase the poet's skill in employing poetic vocabulary artistically to serve his poetic vision and deepen its expressive dimensions.

The research is divided into two main sections. The first section is dedicated to studying repetition as a fundamental tool of lexical cohesion, by tracing its patterns, namely complete repetition, partial repetition, and synonymy, and revealing their effect in consolidating central ideas and reinforcing the meanings conveyed by the poetic discourse. The second section addresses the phenomenon of lexical cohesion and its related semantic relationships, such as antonymy and collocation, and explains its role in strengthening the textual fabric and enhancing the coherence of its parts. The research findings demonstrate that the poet skillfully employed these lexical devices, contributing to a high degree of textual cohesion and harmony, and imbuing the poem with a semantic and aesthetic dimension that reflects the richness of his poetic experience.
