This paper aims to clarify the concept of the term strangeness and the criteria set by the critics to provide this artistic feature in the poetic text, to stand on the critics’ opinions and sayings in the poetic image, its patterns, tools for its formation, its aesthetics and the features that make the image described with wit and uniqueness and the ability to make an emotional impact on the recipient. The paper is based on two hypotheses:
- The element of strangeness is embodied in the image structuring techniques.
- The element of strangeness contributes to the psychological impact of the recipient
The researcher has relied on the critical analytical method to prove the validity of his hypotheses. The paper is divided into two sections, the first one tackles the strangeness of the simile, and the second part is dedicated for studying the metaphorical image and the techniques that contribute to its strangeness.
